Server Architecture
Userful offers a variety of server deployment options to ensure customers have all the flexibility they need when deploying Userful’s Visual Networking Platform.
On-premise & Cloud Servers
Customers can either deploy their Userful server on-premise or in the cloud.
Both cloud and on-premise deployment options offer access to Userful Manager so that regardless of which server deployment option you choose, you can manage the complete Visual Networking Platform, all its servers, content and displays from a single management interface.
This ensures that a hybrid deployment, which mixes both on-premise servers and cloud servers, is easily managed using a single interface.
Compatible server variants:
How it works
Sources Media
Userful supports "any and many" simultaneous sources including video, HDMI or SD capture, desktop apps, multiple browser sessions, local desktops over the network, RDP, RTSP etc.
Administrator
Access levels can be customized using Role Based Access Control (RBAC).
Remote Administrators can access any Userful server through the cloud and easily manage multi-site deployments.
Local For offline deployments, administrators can manage deployments locally within the LAN.
On-premise Server Hardware
An on-premise server can support up to 100+ screens on a single video wall or deployment using a single commercially available, off the shelf PC/Server that is a make and model certified by Userful. Add an optional second PC/Server for automated failover.
Network Switch Ethernet Switch
On-premise server connects to the displays over the Local Area Network, which (if needed) can be an isolated network.
Use Smart Displays or an Adapter
Supported Smart Displays can connect directly to the Userful server with no additional hardware required, just the Userful uClient App which installs directly onto the displays. Alternatively any display can be used by adding an adapter such as a zero client receiver (a stateless device with no moving parts, no software or processor that outputs pixels to the displays via HDMI).
Sources Media
In a cloud deployment Userful supports a variety of sources including video of unlimited resolution as well as local HDMI sources that are HDCP restricted.
Administrator
With a cloud deployment all administration is done through the cloud and an administrator can centrally manage and control deployments anywhere in the world.
Cloud Server Hardware
The Userful server is hosted in the cloud, however content is downloaded and cached onto displays ensuring continuous play even in the event of an internet outage.
Use Smart Displays or an Adapter
Supported Smart Displays can connect directly to the cloud server with no additional hardware required, just the Userful uClient App which installs directly onto the displays. Alternatively any display can be used by adding an Android based adapter.
Video Walls and Digital Signs
Cloud based deployments can support video walls of unlimited size, there is no restrictions on the number of displays that can be added.

Server Hardware Hardware
Stream content sources from a commercially available, off-the-shelf server, that is a make and model certified by Userful, to displays across the Wide Area Network (WAN).
Use Smart Displays or an Adapter
Supported Smart Displays can connect directly to the Userful data center server with no additional hardware required, just the Userful uClient App which installs directly onto the displays. Alternatively any display can be used by adding an adapter.
Sources Media
A hybrid deployment supports "any and many" simultaneous delivered through one of the server options.
Administrator
With a hybrid deployment administrators have one toolset to manage their entire deployment using a mix of server types--cloud, on-premise and data center. That toolset can be accessed remotely to manage all servers at once by logging into userful.com. All on-premise servers can also be managed and controlled locally.
Server Hardware Hardware
A hybrid deployment combines a variety of servers into a single deployment giving administrators maximum flexibility while managing the all displays and applications centrally.
